Mama Carol’s update - June 2024
My Dear Friends,
It’s a bright and beautiful morning here in Zambia. I am happy to tell you that we are almost done with the building projects. Very soon and for the first time in 20 years, I will have my own kitchen! I can’t wait! To be able to cook on my own and have a flower garden again is a gift I could not have imagined 5 years ago. What a blessing! We are aiming for a September grand opening for the renovated Redemption House.
Everyone is doing well here. The first term of school is finished, and some were able to bring home impressive results! Four had the highest scores of all the class. With class sizes of over 80 students, that’s a big job and I’m very proud of them. I am looking forward to having the college kids home for a short time in June. I miss them and can’t wait to catch up with their lives.
Our new children have settled in well. Most have returned to their relatives, but six remain with us. Having little girls again is a joy! The big girls and I are having tons of fun teaching them and playing barbie dolls. Very soon we will begin Street Work again, giving us the opportunity to help more vulnerable children. You can never know how grateful we are for the funds to build. This means we now have open beds and can provide care for these most destitute children desperately in need of a home and some loving care.
As you read through this newsletter, you will learn we have many upcoming needs. There are serious food issues here in Zambia due to the widespread drought. Zero maize yield means there is no pig feed, chicken feed or mealie meal for Nshima, which is the staple food served at almost every meal here. Also, the educational success of our children gets very expensive as they age, and I ask you to consider helping with upcoming college tuitions.
In addition, it’s Christmas in July time. This is the time you fill barrels in America with gifts and items we use for Christmas here in Zambia. Please note the flyer included with this letter. It provides the details needed to help us create a beautiful Christmas for the children here in Zambia.
The children, young men and women, and I are grateful for each one of you. We pray for you every day and we appreciate your gifts and generosity beyond anything you can know. Because of you, we can make permanent, positive changes in our children’s lives that will impact this country forever. Thank You.
God Bless you today and always,
Mama Carol
