St. Joseph the Worker Chapel

We are so excited to show you our recently built chapel at Kulanga Bana. St. Joseph the Worker Chapel will be officially opened and commissioned into our parish on May 1, the feast day of St. Joseph the Worker.

We wanted to share with you what we have been doing during lent. The church teaches that Lent requires prayer, fasting, and alms giving. Our children obviously cannot give alms, more often they are the recipients of Lenten alms giving. Therefore, we replace alms giving with service projects. Every child under the care of AFCZ is required to do a Lenten Service project. In addition, we get out into the streets where the children sleep at night and do some serious outreach throughout Lent. Each of us will be fasting a meal and praying for the children still in the streets during that mealtime and fasting a meal and praying for our biological families. Some of our service projects this year are fixing the roads in our area that have been damaged during the rainy season and fetching and carrying water for the elders and young single mothers in the neighborhood.

The Redemption House Boys have been baking and doing other activities with the little ones. We can be found teaching culture and drama at other orphanages, singing and praying with patients at the hospice, visiting with the elders in the neighborhood on Saturday mornings. The kids do a terrific job on the service projects. They show commitment, have fun, and learn a lot about themselves and their neighborhoods. Mama Carol is truly proud of them and enjoys watching them grow and mature during the Lenten season.
